Golden sassafras is a beautiful pale creamy grey to white timber. Finishing to a grey and golden tone, it is particularly attractive as a veneer or as a solid timber with knots providing figure. If infected with a staining fungus it produces blackheart sassafras which is a distinctive dark brown or black, with even green streaks running through the wood.
